Backed by Mizuho Bank and fintech firm Metaps among other investors, Pring grew to become a significant player in Japan's emerging cashless payments ecosystem. In July 2021, Google agreed to acquire Pring for between $180 million and $270 million to expand its fintech presence in Japan, integrating Pring's capabilities into Google Pay.
