About
Prime Trust was a Nevada-chartered trust company that provided financial infrastructure APIs enabling fintech and digital asset companies to launch and scale financial products quickly, securely, and compliantly. Its API-first platform offered custody, clearing, payments, and KYC/AML services for crypto exchanges, neobanks, and fintech startups. At its peak, Prime Trust served hundreds of fintech clients as critical backend infrastructure. In 2023, a BitGo acquisition fell through after Prime Trust revealed it had lost access to legacy wallets and used customer funds to purchase cryptocurrency to cover withdrawals. The Nevada Financial Institutions Division took control of the company in June 2023, and Prime Trust filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2023 with approximately $500 million owed to customers.
