PIP Labs is an R&D company contributing to DATA Network, the Layer 1 blockchain where real-world data is sourced, verified, and processed for AI training. The company was previously the core team behind Story Protocol, a blockchain infrastructure platform for programmable intellectual property licensing and tokenization. PIP Labs pivoted to focus on the challenge that high-quality, trustworthy training data remains scarce even as AI compute and model architectures become increasingly accessible. DATA Network enables data to be sourced, verified, and quality-assured at scale, unlocking a new supply of human-generated data for AI. Founded in 2022 and backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Polychain Capital among others, PIP Labs raised $80 million in 2024 to develop the Story blockchain for intellectual property.
