Founded in 1989 by Dr. Noubar Afeyan with co-founder Fred E. Regnier and based in Framingham, Massachusetts, PerSeptive Biosystems pioneered perfusion chromatography resins based on fractal-theory-derived pore structures for high-speed, low-pressure protein purification. The company later acquired Vestec Corporation, founded by MALDI pioneer Dr. Marvin Vestal, and launched the Voyager series of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers before being acquired by PE Biosystems (later Applied Biosystems) in the late 1990s.
