Parse, Inc. was a mobile backend-as-a-service (MBaaS) platform founded in June 2011 by Tikhon Bernstam, Ilya Sukhar, Kevin Lacker, and James Yu, providing cloud data storage, user authentication, push notifications, and custom cloud code for mobile app developers. Facebook acquired Parse for $85 million in 2013, and by 2014 it powered over 500,000 mobile apps. Facebook shut down the hosted service in January 2017 and open-sourced the platform as Parse Platform, which continues today as a community-maintained open-source backend for mobile and web applications.
