Open Source Economy

Open Source Economy (OSE) is building a decentralized, permissionless marketplace for the open-source community — enabling maintainers, contributors, users, and financial backers to exchange value around open-source projects. OSE addresses the chronic underfunding and contributor burnout plaguing open-source by introducing a micro-economy model where each project can issue its own token, creating a project-specific economy governed by the community rather than a central platform operator. Unlike existing centralized platforms (e.g., Patreon, Polar.sh) that impose high commissions and unilateral fee changes, OSE uses blockchain-based decentralization and a meritocratic governance structure — giving voting power to active participants. The platform facilitates bounty systems for bug fixes and feature requests, attracts financial backers through project tokenomics, and redistributes value to open-source dependencies, aiming to make open-source self-sustaining at scale.
