About

OneSix Energy is a Detroit-based clean-energy technology company developing a novel, patent-pending methane pyrolysis process for producing low-cost, clean hydrogen without carbon dioxide emissions. Unlike steam methane reforming — which emits roughly 11 tons of CO₂ per ton of hydrogen — or water electrolysis — which is clean but energy-intensive and water-hungry — OneSix's reactor recirculates a fraction of its own hydrogen output to power the process, requiring no external energy input and no water consumption. The system splits methane (CH₄) into hydrogen gas and solid carbon black, a valuable co-product with a roughly $40 billion global market used in tires and industrial materials. Headquartered at Newlab in Detroit and part of the Midwest Hydrogen Hub, OneSix has filed a patent, built and independently tested a prototype, and is advancing toward a pilot phase targeting data centers, shipping ports, and heavy-duty transportation as early application markets.
