OceanBase is a unified distributed relational database developed by Ant Group (Alibaba’s fintech arm), designed to handle mission-critical transactional, analytical, and AI workloads at massive scale with full MySQL compatibility and 100% ACID compliance. Originally established in 2010 to power Taobao’s favorites feature, it became a production database for Alipay and later open-sourced, enabling enterprises to replace fragmented multi-database architectures with a single, horizontally scalable system.
