Nyriad

Nyriad built GPU-accelerated erasure-coding storage systems that replace traditional RAID, powering its flagship UltraIO platform for high-performance, cost-efficient data storage. The technology targeted media/imaging, backup and recovery, high-performance computing, and active archiving workloads, aiming for flash-level performance at hard-drive-level total cost of ownership while cutting energy use. Originally founded in Cambridge, Waikato, New Zealand, the company later relocated its headquarters to the United States. As of 2024 Nyriad began an orderly wind-down after selling its patents and remaining system inventory.
