Novacept

Novacept was a privately held medical device company based in Palo Alto, California that designed, developed and sold products for women's health, most notably the NovaSure Impedance Controlled Endometrial Ablation System launched in the U.S. in early 2002 to treat menorrhagia (excessive menstrual bleeding), a condition affecting roughly one in five pre-menopausal women. The FDA granted NovaSure premarket approval in September 2001, and the company grew annual sales from $8.3 million in 2002 to $38.4 million in 2003 before being acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2004 for $325 million.
