Neuralieve

Neuralieve was a medical device company based in Sunnyvale, California, developing a portable, non-invasive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device for the acute treatment of migraine. Its single-pulse TMS system was designed to disrupt cortical spreading depression — the abnormal brain wave activity that precedes migraine with aura — to preempt or reduce the severity of migraine episodes. The company completed a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled multi-center clinical trial demonstrating superiority over sham treatment and subsequently filed a pre-market notification with the FDA. Neuralieve was backed by NEA (first invested 2002) and raised $4.75 million to advance the device toward regulatory clearance.
