Mixwit

Mixwit was a Y Combinator-backed online mixtape creation and sharing service that allowed users to build digital mixtapes from songs and share them across the web. Launched as part of YC's Winter 2008 batch and based in San Francisco, the product quickly attracted over 4 million monthly active users and significant press coverage. Mixwit let users curate playlists from various music sources, give them custom artwork and covers reminiscent of analog cassette mixtapes, and embed them anywhere on the web. The service capitalized on the nostalgia of physical mixtape culture translated into a social media sharing format. Mixwit was shut down in December 2008 after roughly one year of operation, with its domain eventually redirecting to cloud.tv.
