Mesentech

Mesentech is a clinical-stage biotechnology company founded in 2013 by SFU chemistry professor Robert Young, focused on developing novel bi-specific small-molecule therapeutics that selectively concentrate in bone tissue to treat musculoskeletal diseases including osteoporosis and bone fractures. The company's lead compound, MES1022, is a prodrug that exploits a proprietary bone-targeting platform built on over 30 years of research into the bone anabolic effects of prostaglandins, and dosed its first Phase 1 patients in 2023. Headquartered in Vancouver with a lab in Burnaby, British Columbia, Mesentech has secured $15 million in funding and counts CureDuchenne among its investors. The approach aims to solve the longstanding challenge of drug delivery specifically to bone, avoiding systemic side effects while triggering localized regeneration.
