Limelight Networks was founded in 2001 in Tempe, Arizona as a content delivery network (CDN) provider for streaming video, software, and other digital content, going public on Nasdaq (LLNW) in 2007. The company delivered digital media for major events including the Beijing and London Olympics, the Super Bowl, and the 2009 presidential inauguration webcast. In June 2022 it acquired Yahoo's Edgecast business and rebranded as Edgio, adding edge computing, cloud security, and DDoS mitigation. Edgio filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2024, sold its assets to Lynrock Lake and Akamai Technologies, and became defunct in January 2025.
