Leuko Labs is an MIT spinout developing PointCheck, the world's first noninvasive medical device for monitoring white blood cell levels without a blood draw. The portable, finger-based device works by shining light into the skin near the fingernail to image blood flow in superficial capillaries, then uses AI to assess whether white blood cell levels are dangerously low. PointCheck is designed for at-home use by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, enabling more frequent monitoring to detect neutropenia — a dangerous drop in immune cells — and support earlier clinical intervention. Leuko's platform is backed by 9 peer-reviewed publications, collaborations with 8 top cancer centers, and a pivotal clinical trial currently underway. The company has raised over $15 million in venture and non-dilutive funding including a $5 million Series A in 2022 and a $4.5 million NIH/NCI grant in 2024. Leuko aims to improve clinical outcomes for more than 2 million cancer patients annually in the US and reduce chemotherapy-related hospital admissions by 50 percent.
