About
Laurel Networks was an American telecommunications equipment company founded in 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by six former Fore Systems engineers, specializing in IP/MPLS multiservice edge routers and broadband remote access servers for telecom carriers. Its flagship ST Series Service Edge Routers, powered by proprietary ShadeTree software, served carriers including Korea Telecom, Dacom, and Level 3 Communications. The company raised roughly $118 million in venture funding from New Enterprise Associates, Trinity Ventures, and Ciena before Israeli telecom vendor ECI Telecom acquired it for $88 million in 2005; the Pittsburgh office was shut down in 2011-2012.
