KUFU, Inc. (now SmartHR, Inc.) was founded on January 23, 2013 in Tokyo, Japan, and is the developer of SmartHR — Japan's leading cloud-based HR and labor management platform. SmartHR automates social insurance and employment insurance procedures, streamlines payroll processing, onboarding, and HR document management, and provides labor analytics for businesses of all sizes. Headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo (Roppongi), the company rebranded from KUFU to SmartHR in 2017 following rapid growth and has since expanded to over 1,000 employees. SmartHR serves tens of thousands of Japanese companies and has become the dominant HR SaaS platform in Japan, holding ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications.
