Japan Infrastructure Waymark (JIW) is a Tokyo-based drone inspection company founded in April 2019 to modernize Japan's bridge and infrastructure inspection industry. The company deploys autonomous drone fleets — primarily Skydio aircraft — to conduct precision inspections of bridges, culverts, steel towers, and pipeline infrastructure, replacing costly traditional methods such as climbers and snooper trucks. JIW has trained over 2,000 drone operators, owns a fleet of 300+ aircraft, and has inspected more than 3,000 infrastructure assets across Japan, growing from 10 bridge inspections in 2019 to market leader status. The company is backed by NTT West and targets Japan's network of approximately 714,000 bridges.
