Ineffable Intelligence

Ineffable Intelligence is a British AI laboratory founded in November 2025 by David Silver, a professor at University College London and former head of the reinforcement learning team at Google DeepMind. Silver is best known for developing AlphaZero and other programs that mastered chess and Go through pure self-play without human game data. Ineffable Intelligence aims to build a superlearner — an AI system capable of discovering all knowledge and skills autonomously through reinforcement learning, without relying on human-generated training data. The company raised .1 billion in April 2026 at a valuation of .1 billion in what was the largest seed round ever for a European startup. The round was led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Index Ventures, Google, Nvidia, the British Business Bank, and the UK's Sovereign AI fund.
