Hummingbird Technologies was a London-based precision agriculture technology company that developed an AI-powered SaaS platform for crop health monitoring and analytics. Founded in 2016, the company used deep learning, computer vision, and proprietary algorithms to analyze drone, satellite, and low-orbit remote sensing imagery, delivering actionable intelligence to farmers and agribusinesses at key decision-making points during the growing season. The platform's capabilities included early crop disease detection, weed mapping, yield prediction, biomass estimation, canopy coverage measurement, and plant count analysis. Hummingbird served farming operations across the UK, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, and Malawi, covering over 500,000 hectares of arable crops and developing more than 70 crop-specific machine learning models with over 90% accuracy. Investors included BASF Venture Capital, TELUS Ventures, SALIC (Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company), Downing Ventures, Sir James Dyson, the European Space Agency, Horizons Ventures, and Velcourt Farming Group. The company raised a $10 million Series B round in 2019. In July 2022, Hummingbird Technologies was acquired by Agreena, a Copenhagen-based carbon farming platform, combining their technologies for satellite-based monitoring and verification of regenerative farming practices.
