Founded in 2010 by siblings Adora and Aaron Cheung, the company used proprietary algorithms to match homeowners with on-demand contract cleaners and grew rapidly after graduating from Y Combinator. Homejoy raised approximately $40 million including a Series B round led by Google Ventures in late 2013. The company shut down in July 2015 following worker classification lawsuits that challenged its contractor model.
