About

GlusterFS is a scalable, open source, distributed file system designed for data-intensive workloads such as cloud storage, media streaming, and big data analytics. It is a POSIX-compatible network file system that aggregates storage resources across multiple commodity servers into a unified namespace capable of scaling to several petabytes. GlusterFS supports replication, geo-replication, snapshots, quotas, and bitrot detection, and allows workload-specific optimization without requiring a dedicated metadata server. Originally developed by Gluster Inc., founded in 2005, the technology was acquired by Red Hat in October 2011 for approximately $136 million and became the foundation for Red Hat Gluster Storage and Red Hat Storage Server.
