Gaikai was a cloud-based interactive gaming company that enabled users to stream and play high-end PC and console games directly in a web browser without any downloads or specialized hardware. Founded in 2008, Gaikai's technology had multiple applications including in-game advertising and game trials embedded in websites. The company announced partnerships with major publishers including Electronic Arts. Sony Computer Entertainment acquired Gaikai in July 2012 for approximately $380 million, subsequently using its technology to power PlayStation Now.
