About
FireDrone is an autonomous aerial system engineered for firefighting and industrial inspection in extreme environments. Operating at up to 200 °C, it provides real-time data where conventional drones cannot survive. The platform combines a high-temperature aerial vehicle, protected ground station, remote control, and data-analysis software so teams can localize hazards and report insights in smoke, dust, and heat. Firefighters use it to find hotspots and victims in smoke-filled scenes; industrial customers inspect high-temperature assets without shutdowns. Developed at Empa by the Laboratory of Sustainability Robotics and the Superinsulation Materials Group, it is now an Empa and EPFL spin-off.
