Excite@Home was an American high-speed cable Internet service provider headquartered in Redwood City, California, formed in 1999 through a $6.7 billion merger of the @Home Network (founded 1996) and the Excite web portal. At its peak the company served 4.1 million broadband subscribers across the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the Benelux region through partnerships with cable operators including Comcast, Cox, and AT&T. Weighed down by expenses that outpaced revenue and the bursting of the dot-com bubble, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 1, 2001, and ceased operations by February 2002, laying off its remaining 1,350 employees.
