About

Electrochaea was formed in 2014 to commercialize a highly efficient methanogenic strain of archaea discovered by Prof. Laurens Mets at the University of Chicago, which converts clean energy and emitted CO2 into a green, renewable form of methane known as e-methane or synthetic methane. The company has launched demonstration biomethanation plants in Denmark, Switzerland, and the U.S., including the world's first 1 MWe Power-to-Gas plant, and licenses its proprietary technology to energy and industrial companies pursuing commercial-scale, cost-efficient e-methane production.
