e-lamp. is a Japanese deep-tech startup originating as a Keio University spinout project in May 2020, rooted in psychology and kansei engineering (affective science) research. The company develops an earring-type wearable device that uses a photoreflector-equipped pulse sensor to detect heartbeat from the earlobe by measuring blood vessel expansion and contraction via green LED light. The detected pulse variation — a proxy for emotional arousal — is visualized in real time through synchronized LED light patterns on the earring itself, making the wearer's inner emotional state visible to those around them. e-lamp.'s mission is to introduce new forms of emotional communication into everyday life, addressing the fundamental challenge that people often struggle to express or perceive emotional states during interpersonal interaction. The company operates with both an academic research track and a social implementation track, conducting pilot experiments at events such as matchmaking gatherings, the Shibuya Sky observation deck, and the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT museum. Two of its core members were selected for Japan's MITOU Advanced program in fiscal 2022. e-lamp. is actively seeking corporate validation partners for further product commercialization.
