Seamless multi-monitor connectivity via USB
DisplayLink (formerly Newnham Research) is a semiconductor and software technology company founded in 2003 in Cambridge, UK, by Dr. Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Martin King. The company invented USB graphics technology that enables computers to connect to multiple monitors, docking stations, and virtual reality headsets over USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connections — without relying on the host device's GPU. DisplayLink's chipsets and drivers are compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, ChromeOS, and Linux, and are used by major OEMs including notebook manufacturers, LCD monitor makers, and PC accessory vendors. In July 2020, DisplayLink was acquired by Synaptics for approximately $305 million in cash. The company had raised approximately $75 million in venture capital prior to acquisition from Atlas Venture, Balderton Capital, Cipio Partners, DAG Ventures, and DFJ Esprit.
