CPanel

cPanel is a Linux-based web hosting control panel that gives hosting providers, resellers, and website owners a graphical interface for managing servers — file management, email accounts, domains, databases, DNS, and security — typically paired with WebHost Manager (WHM) for server-level administration. Originally created in 1996 by J. Nick Koston for Speed Hosting, cPanel grew into the dominant control panel in the web hosting industry, used by hosting providers to manage tens of millions of domains worldwide. In August 2018, cPanel L.L.C. was acquired by WebPros BV, a holding company backed by Oakley Capital Private Equity Fund III, which took a majority stake from founder J. Nick Koston alongside a $50 million growth investment. In December 2019, WebPros (and with it cPanel) came under majority ownership of CVC Capital Partners' Fund VII, with Oakley Capital reinvesting as a minority partner. cPanel remains headquartered in Houston, Texas and operates as a subsidiary of WebPros, managing web hosting infrastructure for millions of websites globally.
