About
Commercial Credit Corporation (CCC) was a Baltimore-based commercial finance company founded in 1912 by Alexander E. Duncan, initially providing accounts-receivable-secured lending to businesses. Over eight decades it grew into one of the largest consumer finance and insurance conglomerates in the United States, spanning auto finance, factoring, insurance, leasing, and real estate. In 1986 Sandy Weill acquired CCC and used it as the platform to build what eventually became Citigroup, acquiring Primerica (1988) and Travelers Corp (1993); CCC ceased to exist as an independent entity by the mid-1990s.
