Cernostics

Cernostics was a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based diagnostics company specializing in spatial biology and artificial intelligence-driven image analysis of tissue biopsies. Its flagship product, the TissueCypher Barrett's Esophagus Assay, was the first precision medicine test designed to predict future development of high-grade dysplasia and esophageal cancer in patients with Barrett's esophagus. The TissueCypher platform combined multiplexed immunofluorescence, high-definition digital microscopy, and machine learning to deliver spatialomics-based clinical decision support. Cernostics was acquired by Castle Biosciences (Nasdaq: CSTL) in December 2021 for approximately $30 million in initial consideration plus up to $50 million in milestone payments, after which it became a wholly owned subsidiary.
