Cephalon

Cephalon, Inc. was an American biopharmaceutical company co-founded in 1987 by pharmacologist Frank Baldino, Jr., neuroscientist Michael Lewis, and organic chemist James C. Kauer, all former DuPont scientists. Established primarily to pursue treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, Cephalon went on to develop and commercialize products for sleep disorders, pain, addiction and cancer, building its "wake franchise" around Provigil (modafinil) and Nuvigil. Other marketed products included Actiq, Gabitril, Amrix, Fentora, Treanda and Trisenox. Cephalon's revenues reached $2.8 billion in 2010, and on May 2, 2011, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries announced its acquisition of the company, completing the deal on October 11, 2011.
