Calliditas Therapeutics is a commercial-stage specialty biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, focused on identifying, developing, and commercializing novel treatments for rare diseases with significant unmet medical needs. Founded in 2004, the company pioneered TARPEYO (budesonide delayed-release capsules), the first and only FDA-approved treatment specifically designed for IgA nephropathy, a rare kidney disease. Calliditas markets TARPEYO in the United States and licenses the drug globally, while also advancing a pipeline of NOX enzyme inhibitors for fibrotic and oncological conditions. The company was acquired by Japanese pharmaceutical group Asahi Kasei in 2024.
