Calixa Therapeutics

Calixa Therapeutics was a San Diego-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel antibiotics to address the growing threat of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. The company's lead program, CXA-201, was a next-generation cephalosporin antibiotic being developed as a first-line intravenous therapy for serious Gram-negative bacterial infections including those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Calixa advanced CXA-201 through clinical development before being acquired by Cubist Pharmaceuticals in December 2009 for $92.5 million in cash. CXA-201 was later approved by the FDA as ceftolozane/tazobactam (Zerbaxa) after Cubist's further development.
