The Bucharest Stock Exchange (Bursa de Valori București, BVB) is Romania's central capital markets institution, originally founded on 1 December 1882 by royal decree of King Carol I, closed under the communist regime in 1948, and re-established in April 1995. Today it is the largest stock exchange in Southeast Europe by market capitalization, listing 389 companies and 607 securities with a market cap of approximately $155 billion as of 2026. BVB operates a regulated main market alongside the AeRO growth market for startups and SMEs, and calculates benchmark indices including BET, BET-TR, and BET-XT.
