Brookfield Asset Management Inc

Brookfield's origins trace to 1899 and the founding of The Sao Paulo Tramway, Light and Power Co. in Brazil, an early template for its focus on owning and operating long-life real assets globally. Beginning in 1954 under founder Peter Bronfman, the firm expanded from real estate into a global alternative asset manager spanning infrastructure, renewable power, private equity, and credit, including the 2019 acquisition of Oaktree Capital. In 2022, Brookfield Asset Management was spun out as a distinct, publicly traded, asset-light alternative asset management business now overseeing more than $1 trillion in assets under management.
