About
Brigade Media was a civic technology platform founded in April 2014 by Matt Mahan, James Windon, Jason Putorti, John Thrall, and Miche Capone, with Sean Parker as chairman. The platform aimed to increase citizen engagement in democracy by connecting users around shared political views, enabling debates, petitions, and voter guides. Brigade acquired Causes, Votizen, and Voter to build a comprehensive civic engagement ecosystem, reaching 200,000 verified users before shutting down. In early 2019, the engineering team was acqui-hired by Pinterest, and the remaining assets and IP — including the Causes platform — were acquired by GovTech app Countable. The website is no longer active.
