Boxee was a cross-platform freeware media center application with a 10-foot user interface and social networking features designed for the TV. Founded in 2007 by Avner Ronen, Boxee allowed users to stream Netflix, Hulu, and VUDU, and discover video recommendations from friends on Facebook and Twitter. The company launched the Boxee Box hardware set-top device with D-Link. Boxee was acquired by Samsung for approximately $30 million in July 2013.
