BottlePay was a Newcastle-based consumer Bitcoin payments app built on the Lightning Network, allowing users to send Bitcoin instantly and use it for everyday payments. The company was FCA-registered and held customer funds through licensed e-money partners Modulr FS Limited (UK) and Modulr Finance B.V. (Europe). Despite remaining well-funded, BottlePay's parent group chose to focus on other projects and closed the consumer app on 24 July 2023, converting remaining Bitcoin balances to fiat currency and returning funds to customers via its solvent administrator Interpath.
