Biobot Analytics is the world's first and most advanced wastewater intelligence platform, transforming municipal sewer systems into population-level public health observatories. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Mariana Matus and Newsha Ghaeli as a spinout from MIT research on wastewater epidemiology, Biobot pioneered the commercial application of wastewater-based epidemiology as a public health surveillance tool. The company collects wastewater samples from utilities and municipal treatment plants across the United States, then analyzes them to detect and track over 50 human health biomarkers including viruses, pathogens, and high-risk substances such as opioids and fentanyl. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Biobot became a nationally recognized provider of early-warning wastewater surveillance data, serving more than 700 cities and institutions.
