BiliCam LLC is a Seattle-based digital health company that developed a smartphone app to non-invasively screen newborns for jaundice (neonatal hyperbilirubinemia). The app uses a smartphone camera, flash, and a disposable color calibration card placed on the baby's belly to capture an image; machine-learning algorithms in the cloud analyze the photo and return an estimated total serum bilirubin (TSB) level within seconds. Clinical validation across 7 U.S. sites demonstrated correlations of 0.88–0.92 across diverse newborn skin tones. BiliCam was co-founded by Dr. James Taylor (UW professor of pediatrics), Dr. Shwetak Patel (UW computer science/electrical engineering), and Dr. Mayunk Patel, and spun out of the UW UbiComp Lab. The company received HHS SBIR funding. The bilicam.com domain is no longer active, suggesting the company may be inactive.
