Atuin

Atuin is an open-source developer tool that replaces the standard shell history file with a SQLite database, enabling encrypted synchronization of command history across multiple machines. Built in Rust and supporting bash, zsh, fish, and more, Atuin lets developers search commands by text, directory, exit code, duration, hostname, and other rich context. The platform offers an optional hosted sync service as well as a self-hostable server for teams requiring full data sovereignty. As of 2025, Atuin has over 30,000 GitHub stars, 300+ contributors, 600 million synced commands, and more than 500,000 active developer users worldwide.
