About

Atieva was an electric vehicle battery and powertrain company founded in 2007 by Bernard Tse (former Tesla VP), Sam Weng, and Sheaupyng Lin. Initially focused on building battery packs for vehicle manufacturers, Atieva worked with Lishen on battery packs for electric buses in China starting in 2011. In 2014, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC) acquired a 25% stake. The company attracted investment from Tsing Capital, Mitsui, Venrock, and JAFCO. In October 2016, under CTO Peter Rawlinson (former Tesla Model S chief engineer), the company rebranded as Lucid Motors and pivoted to building its own luxury electric vehicles. It also served as the sole battery-pack supplier for Formula E from 2018–2022.
