Amino Labs

Amino Labs is a Canadian biotechnology education company founded in 2015 by designer Julie Legault and biotech scientist Dr. Justin Pahara, based on Legault's graduate thesis research at the MIT Media Lab. The company develops hands-on biology experiment kits, easy-to-use laboratory equipment (the DNA Playground), free virtual simulators, and curriculum-aligned teaching resources that enable students aged 12 and up, educators, and parents to learn genetic engineering and synthetic biology without prior knowledge. Operating from a farm in Southern Alberta since 2017, Amino Labs is mission-driven to make biotechnology accessible to the next generation and supports the broader field through its bestselling book Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero.
