About
American Media, Inc. (AMI) was a leading American magazine and media publishing company originally formed in 1988 as the parent company of the National Enquirer. The company grew substantially through the 1990s and 2000s by acquiring supermarket tabloids including Globe, the National Examiner, and Star, as well as lifestyle publications such as Us Weekly, Men's Journal, In Touch Weekly, Soap Opera Digest, and Woman's World. AMI was acquired by Chatham Asset Management in 2014 and subsequently shifted focus toward glossy publications. In 2020, AMI merged with Chatham-owned wholesale distributor Accelerate 360 and was renamed a360media. The company was ultimately merged into newspaper publisher McClatchy in December 2024.
