Aluna is an AI-enabled respiratory management platform built around an FDA-cleared at-home digital spirometer that allows asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis patients to measure and track their lung function daily from home. Co-founded by Charvi Shetty and Inderjit Jutla — both asthma sufferers who began the project in UC Berkeley's bioengineering program — Aluna pairs a portable Bluetooth spirometer with a gamified mobile app that logs symptoms, medication adherence, activity levels, and environmental triggers. Proprietary machine learning algorithms analyze the longitudinal data to surface early warning signs, enabling allergists, pulmonologists, and other providers to intervene before a respiratory crisis occurs. The platform supports Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) reimbursement, making it eligible for major insurance coverage with often no out-of-pocket cost to patients. Aluna grew its patient base 10x in 2022, raised a $15.3M Series B led by Matrix Partners in January 2023, and was subsequently acquired by Huma in April 2025 as part of Huma's AI-powered remote patient monitoring portfolio. The company operated from San Francisco, California.
