Altis Biosystems is a biotechnology company that has pioneered the RepliGut Systems platform — a collection of in vitro models derived from adult human donor stem cells, designed specifically for pre-clinical drug discovery and intestinal biology research. The RepliGut Planar model is a reproducible and scalable human intestine platform suitable for studying drug disposition, pharmacology, toxicity, metabolism, drug absorption, and intestinal barrier function. Altis's technology is designed to replace Caco-2 cancer cells, the current industry standard for intestinal absorption modeling, with a biologically accurate alternative that better reflects native human physiology. The company's mission is to enable pharmaceutical companies to identify effective compounds earlier — before clinical trials — to reduce animal testing and to make the drug development process faster, cheaper, and safer through New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). Altis was founded out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by researchers including Dr. Nancy Allbritton and provides both ready-to-use RepliGut model kits and contract cell-based assay services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies globally.
