Alpheus Medical is a private, clinical-stage oncology company pioneering sonodynamic therapy (SDT) for the treatment of solid body cancers, with a lead program targeting glioblastoma (GBM). The company's PoMA (Porphyrin Metabolite Activation) platform combines an oral tumor-localizing drug with low-intensity defocused ultrasound (LIDU) to activate porphyrin metabolites concentrated in tumor cells, producing localized reactive oxygen species that damage cancer cells without exposing healthy tissue. Treatment is delivered non-invasively in an outpatient setting and has received FDA Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations; a pivotal Phase 2b trial in newly diagnosed GBM is currently enrolling patients.
