Advent Technologies LLC is the Livermore, California operating entity behind fuel cell development for defense and portable power applications. Originally operating as UltraCell LLC, it was acquired by Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc. in February 2021. The company develops and manufactures lightweight, portable fuel cell systems — including the Honey Badger 50 (HB50) — that replace diesel generators and batteries for U.S. military and government customers. Its HT-PEM (high-temperature proton exchange membrane) technology enables fuel cells to operate on multiple fuels including methanol, JP-8, and hydrogen under extreme conditions. UltraCell's products are the only NATO-approved fuel cell systems Made in the USA. SBIR awards from the Department of Defense funded early-stage R&D on portable power systems.
