Harnessing Diamond's Perfect Properties for Industrial and Electronic Applications
Advanced Diamond Technologies (ADT) is a materials science company that develops ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) thin films for industrial, electronic, biomedical, and environmental applications. Founded in 2003 by former Argonne National Laboratory researchers, ADT's proprietary process converts natural gas into diamond in a highly controlled manner, producing smooth diamond films with grain sizes as small as 2–5 nm. Products include UNCD seals, AFM probes, MEMS devices, electrochemical water treatment electrodes, and diamond wafers for semiconductor fabrication. The company holds over 30 patents and has received multiple DOE SBIR awards. In 2019, the industrial division was acquired by John Crane, a Chicago-based sealing technology company.
